FLOW for First Responders

First responders and their families face unique stressors in their line of work, which is why Post Trauma Resources created the Family Life and Officer Wellness (FLOW) wellness program. Whether you’re a seasoned first responder or just starting out, FLOW can help you deal with the challenges of your job without sacrificing your mental and emotional well-being.

As South Carolina’s first resiliency-based wellness program, FLOW is dedicated to addressing the three most important areas of first responder wellness: individual functioning, family relationships, and peer support. Unlike other programs that only treat symptoms after they’ve caused significant damage, FLOW offers proactive solutions to address underlying issues such as relationship problems, depression, and adverse childhood experiences. Ignoring these factors can make first responders even more susceptible to work-related trauma exposure.

FLOW for Frontline Medical Personnel

FLOW Critical Next Steps provides Specialized Support for Emergency and Critical Care Staff. The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on frontline healthcare providers, leaving them dealing with grief, trauma, and exhaustion. In response to a local hospital’s request, FLOW Critical Next Steps was created to provide specialized support to emergency and critical care staff. The program’s director, a former first responder, understands the impact of such work on individuals when their efforts cannot prevent suffering or loss. It’s essential to prioritize personal well-being, and FLOW Critical Next Steps can help healthcare providers care for themselves while taking care of others.

FEDERAL AGENCIES

Our mission is two-fold: to prepare organizations to manage critical incidents when they arise, and to promote recovery after the damage is done. When you call Post Trauma Resources, you are calling the same professionals that major corporations and government entities have used to minimize and manage the realities of living in an uncertain world.

Peer Support Teams

Peer support is a crucial component of a comprehensive approach to supporting first responders and personnel in other high-stress occupations. By offering encouragement and validation, PST-trained members can help normalize the varied emotional responses that come with the job. Though not a substitute for professional counseling, PST members can provide an additional layer of support to those who need it. Moreover, a strong PST program can help set a positive example for wellness and resilience within your organization.

We can help you evaluate whether a PST program is right for your agency. Our PST Basic Training goes beyond traditional critical incident stress management (CISM) techniques by incorporating additional topics vital to supporting first responders and their families. Ethical critical incident response training prepares PST members to provide support without the risk of being re-traumatized or inadvertently making the situation worse.
